Pharmaceutical and/or biological prepn. contains at least one water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol, one component (A) of wetting agents, non-ionic surfactants, or dispersants and one component (B) of plant extracts with pharmaceutical and/or biological activity, placenta extracts with pharmaceutical and/or biological activity or chemically clearly defined active ingredients all homogeneously mixed and in the form of a film of thickness 0.05-0.5 mm. Chemical active ingredient in component B is pref. an agent (or treating wounds, e.g. burns, sun burn, Ulcus cruris, scratches, operation wounds, wound disinfectant contg. propylene glycol, malic acid propylene glycol ester, malic acid, benzoic acid or salicyclic acid. Component A is pref. monohydric alcohol e.g. a nonoxynol e.g. nonoxynol-9, nonoyxnol-10 or a polyhydric alcohol e.g. propylene glycol, glycerine, and is esp. a mixt. of a nonoxynol and glycerin. Film can also contain auxiliaries, such as stabilisers, softeners, buffers, antioxidants, perfumes and dyestuffs. Film thickness pref.is 0.06-0.2 (esp. 0.07-0.15) mm. Surface of the film is enlarged by embossing and a gauze is situated within the film or is pressed onto the film. Prepn. contains 50-70 (esp. 55-65) wt.% polyvinyl alcohol, 15-35 (esp.20-30)wt.% nonoxynol, 10-40(esp. 20-35)wt.% propylene glycol, 3-8(esp.5) wt.% propylene glycol, 3-8 (esp.5)wt.% glycerine and upto 15 wt.% component B, the sum of all these, including any opt. auxiliaries, being 100%. USE/ADVANTAGE - Films can be used topically on human skin, release the active ingredients in a better and more uniform manner. Prepns. can be used in the treatment of wounds.
