PURPOSE:To prevent a pump from damage in the event of failure generation in a device, which sends by pressure the fuel to a pressure accumulating means using a plurality of fuel pressure-sending means and maintains the target pressure, by leaving other fuel sensing means in normal operation out of application of excessive burden in case any fuel sending means can not operate normally. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection device of common rail type is equipped with No.1 high No.2 high pressure pumps, and therein the pressure pattern P#1 when the No.1 high pressure pump is stopped forcedly and the pressure pattern P#2 when the No.2 high pressure pump is stopped forcedly are compared with the reference pressure pattern PSTD in the stable state with idling. If the P#1 or P#2 is identical to the PSTD, it is judged that one of the pumps stopped forcedly has gone incapable of pressure sending the fuel, and the target common rail pressure is reduced so as to reduce burden on the other pump in normal operation. |
