Phenoneazo dyes of the formula <IMAGE> where R1 is substituted or unsubstituted C1-C4-alkyl or substituted phenyl, R2 is cyano, carbamoyl or acetyl, R3 is substituted or unsubstituted C1-C4-alkyl or C3-C12-alkyl which is interrupted by from 1 to 3 oxygen atoms and may be substituted, and R4 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, are useful for thermal transfer processes and for dyeing or printing synthetic fabrics.
