PURPOSE:To give a property extraordinarily hard to be moistened relative to ink and other fluid or liquid matters by molding a composite roll comprising an inside layer consisting of a fiber reinforced material and an outside layer having high molecular weight polyethylene. CONSTITUTION:Resin-impregnated reinforcing fiber sheet is wound round a core metal, and after high molecular weight polyethylene sheet impregnated with resin is wound therearound, the wound matter is subjected to a heat treatment for setting the resin in order to form a composite roll. The composite roll 1 obtained herein comprises an inside layer 2 and an outside layer 3, and the inside of the inside layer 2 is defined as a hollow part 4. The inside layer 2 is made up of a fiber-reinforced material that consists mainly of e.g. carbon fiber and is reinforced by resin. Furthermore, the high molecular weight polyethylene of the outside layer 3 is fibrous, and the outside surface of which is polished to be a mirror face. Since the composite roll 1 has a high molecular weight polyethylene in its outside layer 3, it has a property not likely to be wet relative to liquid matters and is a suitable roll for a printing machine. |
