PURPOSE: To form a miniaturized multitrack read head with a lot of integrated unit heads by constituting units, for which magneto-resistance type sensors are inserted into magnetic circuits, in the form of matrix. CONSTITUTION: Respective heads 1, 2... are provided with magnetic poles 1A, 2A... and 2nd magnetic poles 1B, 2B..., magneto-resistance elements 1C, 2C... are inserted into the 2nd magnetic poles 1B, 2B... and these elements are composed of the same type of continuous conductors 3. The magneto-resistance elements 1C, 2C... are produced so as to provide anistropy vertical to a magnetic flux line to be read by a magnetic tape. Conductors 4, 5... are provided for passing near magnetic pole gaps 1D and 2D in order to excite any specified row in the matrix of these elements. When a current is let flow to the conductor 4 corresponding to the specified row in that matrix, magnetizationμin the elements of that row is turned at 45 deg. when it is watched from the direction of rows, and the sensitivity of the magneto-resistance element 1C is made maximum. A signal So of a resistance change generated by the magnetic field of the tape is measured by the output from a correspondent column.
