In order to protect the hands of people handling materials such as rubbish in which there may be sharp or cutting objects, gloves are proposed which comprise an envelope (10) formed of elements (14, 16, 18) made of a hard material, such as steel or a plastic, and a flexible internal lining (12) which enables the hand to be centred inside the glove and protects it from rubbing against the outer envelope. <IMAGE>
