The present invention relates to a method and a device for the manufacture of products made of synthetic foam with shaped perimeter, starting from a parallelepipedal block of foam. Thus, and according to the method in accordance with the invention, the said block of foam is compressed between a first deformation tool, equipped with openings or moulding cavities, and a press, and then a cutting blade is inserted between this deformation tool and the said press. This method furthermore consists in depositing the semi-finished product or products (14, 15, 16) thus obtained into the moulding cavities or openings (20) of a second deformation tool (21) and then in compressing them by means of a press (25) before carrying out a new cutting operation. This method enables, in particular, sponges made of synthetic foam to be produced whose shaped perimeter is reminiscent of that of natural sponges. <IMAGE>
