摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To arbitrarily control the transmittance of a liquid crystal panel and to obtain the liquid crystal display of a high contrast by changing specific pulse heights at the time of applying signals to electrodes on both sides of a ferroelectric liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:This device has 1st electrodes 2 to allow the transmission of visible light and leads on an insulating substrate 1 which allows the transmission of the visible light. The surfaces of the electrodes are coated with thin films contg. a compsn. expressed by SixCyOz and 2nd electrodes 4 which allow the transmission of the visible light are provided on the thin films. The 3rd electrodes 8 which allow the transmission of the visible light and the leads are provided on the insulating substrate 9 which allow the transmission of the visible light. A liquid crystal compsn. and a means for orienting the liquid crystal compsn. in a specified direction are provided on the inner side of the 1st and 2nd substrates 1, 9. The transmittance of the liquid crystal panel is controlled by changing the pulse heights for the two phase components of the second half or the final phase components at the time of applying the electric signals respectively consisting of 4 phases to the scanning electrodes and information electrodes.</p>
