[Also in Division C3] Additives for lubricating oils, hydrocarbon oils and power transmitting fluids are substituted polyamines prepared by reacting at least 0.25 mole of a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic acid, anhydride, halide or ester, the hydrocarbon being saturated and being a polymer containing at least 50 aliphatic carbon atoms with 1 mole of an alkylene amine and at least 0.001 mole of a phosphoric, phosphorous, phosphonyl or phosphinyl acid, ester, halide or anhydride. Examples are given of the addition of these - substituted polyamines to SAE mineral lubricating oils which may also contain the usual additives, especially the metal phosphordithiolates and their epoxide additives. |
