The series connected ballast (1) includes a laminated iron core (2) on a long mounting board (3). The board (3) extends beyond the core (2) at both ends and has a flat base (17). Two strips (9,21) run parallel to each other along the base (17) with a spacing equal to the width of the core (2). Electric contacts (39) are attached to the board (3) and/or the core (2). The board (3) has notches (22) where it is to be bent. The notches run perpendicular to the long sides of the board (3) and each define a tongue (12,13) on the board. The tongues (12,13) being at the core (2) and extend to respective ends (15,16) of the board (3). The length of each tongue (12,13) is greater than the height of the core. ADVANTAGE - Can be easily fastened into lamp housing without any additional parts.
