In order to be able to fit a protective switchgear designed to be tripped by differential current or undervoltage, or designed as a free-trip device, in a restricted space, e.g. inside an ordinary right-angle mains plug, the invention calls for the switching-on device and the plunger tripping device, as well as the electronic monitoring circuitry, to be divided into sub-assemblies which can be assembled to give a functioning unit.
