PURPOSE: To increase operation speed and to relax restrictions on the capacity of a dictionary by providing a compressor and a restorer with the dictionary of code words, corresponding to strings of single characters for compressing and restoring strings of single characters without accessing the dictionary. CONSTITUTION: In a compression mode, a port A interface 14 sends characters from a line 26 to a DC machine 12 through a data route 20 and a port B interface 16. The machine 12 uses a dictionary 22c beforehand to store code words corresponding to strings of single characters in the interface 16. Consequently, characters are converted into code words and are outputted from the interface 16 to a line 28. In a restoration mode, code words inputted to the interface 16 are inputted to the machine 12 and are converted into characters and are outputted to the line 26 through interfaces 16 and 14. Thus, compression and restoration are performed without accessing the dictionary to increase the operation speed. |
