PURPOSE:To enhance abrasion resistance, etc. of the backside of a magnetic tape, by forming a back coat layer contg. carbon black and a filler having a Mohs' hardness not above a specified value and an average particle diameter in a specified range, and another filler having a Mohs' hardness not below said specified value and a similar average particle diameter. CONSTITUTION:The back coat layer containing a filler, such as BaSO4 or CaCO3 having <=4 in Mohs' hardness and 0.1-2mum average particle diameter, and a filler, such as Al2O3 or ZnO, having >=4 in Mohs' hardness and 0.1-2mum average particle diameter together with carbon black having <=0.1mum in formed on the surface of a support opposite to a magnetic layer. As a result, the abrasion resistance and antistaticness of the back coat layer is enhanced and a tape good in irregular winding preventing effect, and superior in traveling characteristics and video characteristics, too, is obtained. |
