The present invention relates to a method of making a sack or bag with a rectangular bottom in the filled condition and with a gripping part, and sacks or bags made by this method. To achieve the object of making already known methods more simple, a continuously advanced flat web has applied to it on one side, at intervals of one bag length, two strips of sealing wax parallel to each other and perpendicular to the side edges; four short strips of sealing wax are applied to the rear side at a corresponding point and two reinforcements are adhesively attached over the full surface between the strips of sealing wax. Underneath the first reinforcement, a folded slip is adhesively attached by one side-piece, while the other side-piece is folded back onto it. Underneath the second reinforcement, an area which corresponds to the side-piece is format-glued. An adhesive strip is applied to one side of the flat web. The web is brought together, forming side folds, to make a tube, in such a way that the free side-piece is arranged on the format gluing and that at the same time the two reinforcements are arranged one above the other. The strips of sealing wax are activated and fold edges are pre-scored. Finally, a gripping hole is punched in the region of the superimposed reinforcements. The still open bottom is put on in the usual way after filling of the bag.
