The groove turning tool has a bar-shaped cutting insert (5) which is supported and clamped in the pocket (3) of the tool body by a two-part clamp (9, 11). The top side (17) of the upper trapezoidal-shaped part (11) of the clamp has longitudinal serrations which fit into matching serrations in the underside of the cutting insert. The lower triangular-shaped part (9) of the clamp has clamping screw (13) near the apex. The normal extending upwards from the mating surface of the two parts of the clamp is inclined towards the tool body by 5 to 30 deg. so that the upper part and insert and pressed against the floor of the pocket.
