PURPOSE:To allow the easy connection of the above parts with optical fibers at a low cost by forming recesses into which the optical fibers can be fitted to an end face. CONSTITUTION:Fiber type waveguides 3 of an optical coupler 10 consists of quartz glass contg. >=1wt.% at least one oxide among boron, phosphorus, germanium, and fluorine as a dopant and the constituting materials, such as cores 11 and clads 12 have the higher solubility at the time of a chemical treatment, such as acid treatment, than the solubility of pure quartz and fluorine-added quartz. A supporting part 14 provided around the fiber type waveguides 13 is constituted of the pure quartz or the fluorine-added quartz. Then, the cores 11 and the clads 12 are eroded by immersing the end part into an aq. strong acid soln. and the circular dents 18 to be tightly fitted with the optical fibers 17 are formed at this end face. Axis alignment and connection are executed if the optical fibers 17 are inserted and fixed into the recesses 18 in this way. |
