An aromatic compound of the formula: <CHEM> wherein R<1> is a C3-C8 alkyl group, a C3-C8 alkoxy group, an alkoxyalkyl group having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, a C3-C8 alkenyl group, a C3-C8 alkenyloxy group, an alkenyloxyalkyl group having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, a C3-C8 haloalkyl group, a C3-C8 haloalkoxy group, a haloalkoxyalkyl group having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, a C3-C8 haloalkenyl group, a C3-C8 haloalkenyloxy group, a haloalkenyloxyalkyl group having 3 to 8 carbon atoms or a C3-C8 alkynyloxy group, R<2> is a halogen atom; R<3> is, the same or different, a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a methyl group; R<4> is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R<5> is, the same or different, a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a C1-C4 alkyl group, a C1-C4 haloalkyl group, a C1-C4 alkoxy group, a C1-C4 haloalkoxy group, a C1-C4 alkylthio group, a C1-C4 haloalkylthio group, a 3,4-methylenedioxy group, a methoxymethyl group, a cyano group or a nitro group; m is an integer of 1 to 3; and n is an integer of 1 to 5, which is useful for control of insect pests.
