Process for the improvement of night vision in vehicles consisting in illuminating the road and the objects therein by means of two long-range headlights (3, 4) emitting light rays of predetermined wavelength, and in sensing an image of the roadway illuminated by these rays by means of a viewing system, characterised in that the two headlights (3, 4) respectively illuminate in the close infrared and ultraviolet fields, in that the viewing is also carried out inside the spectral bands covering close infrared and ultraviolet, and in that the combined night image resulting from this double viewing is restored to the driver in or close to his normal driving field of view. <IMAGE>
