1,000,052. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. May 24, 1963 [July 13, 1962], No. 20889/63. Heading H2A. In order to keep the working fluid of a magnetohydrodynamic generator at high temperature and therefore fully ionized additional heat is added to it continuously during its passage through the working part of the duct. Fuel and oxygen are burned in combustion chamber 14, where seeding material is also added, and passed along duct 10 between electrode pairs 2, 3, 5, 7. Additional oxygen and/or fuel is added from injectors 32, 34 spaced along the duct to keep the temperature reasonably uniform. Alternatively a fuel having a slow combustion rate could be used thus obviating the need for the injected supply. The seeding material is recovered from the exhaust gas by normal washing or precipitation means and returned to the combustion chamber. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 926,498. |
