Lithium 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-dioxyaluminium hydride compounds of the general formula: <IMAGE> IX wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom, or a methyl or ethyl group, and R2 represents a straight- or branched-chain alkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms unsubstituted or substituted by at least one fluorine atom, hydroxy group, or straight- or branched-chain alkoxy group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or represents a phenyl group unsubstituted or substituted by at least one straight- or branched-chain alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms are useful as reducing agents.
