PURPOSE: To provide an automated mixing apparatus for ingredients in containers containing powdery or liquid materials, an automated mixing apparatus which can receive a series of containers from a conveyor line and a automated apparatus for simultaneously mixing contents of some containers, and a means for transporting the containers to one or the other mechanism as well as many mixing mechanisms set up in a mixing station. CONSTITUTION: This automated apparatus for mixing ingredients stored in closed containers includes two or more mixing mechanisms 20. A diverter gate 46 upstream of the mixing mechanisms 20 guides containers 18 to one or the other mechanism as desired. Powered conveyors 32 move the containers 18 past the diverter gate 46 and retractable pusher arm assemblies 126 load the containers onto the mixing mechanisms. After a mixing operation is completed, the pusher arm assemblies 126 discharge the containers onto an exit conveyor for transport to a remote packaging station.
