PURPOSE:To provide a sound signal recording device and a sound signal reproducing device capable of trasmitting a High-Vision sound signal to each equipment without spoiling an acoustic image. CONSTITUTION:A converted transmitting sound signal obtained by means of an all 4CH stereo sound signal and the 2CH sound signal included in the applicable 4CH stereo sound signal are recorded on a magnetic tape 12 as the recording signal of 4CH. At the time of reproducing, by inputting the 4CH sound signal to an inverse matrix processing circuit 35, the 4CH stereo sound signal can be restored. A control signal recorded on the magnetic tape 12 is identified by a control signal identification circuit 32, and the 4CH stereo sound signal or the converted 2CH sound signal can be selectively outputted corresponding to the identification.
