This device for gathering up bales includes a support chassis (1) mounted on a wheel (2) and capable of tipping, from a position in which it is inclined towards the ground into a horizontal position, by virtue of a hydraulic cylinder powered by a pump driven by a power take-off of a tractor; the chassis has, in its upper part, a triple chain mechanism equipped with spikes (3) ensuring the displacement of bales from the ground up to the middle of the chassis; the bale (5), once in place, causes actuation of a solenoid valve in the hydraulic cylinder circuit, which places the chassis in a horizontal position and makes it turn until it points perpendicularly to the longitudinal mid-plane of the trailer, and then causes the chain mechanism to start again in order to move the bale towards the receiving platform (6) of the trailer. <IMAGE>
