The method of overlaying one or more reticles in a video image generated by scanning of lines consisting of elementary patterns, these reticles being able to be overlaid in a rectangular window, comprises the following steps: - cutting out the reticles in the lines of elementary patterns for overlay; - definition of a reference point related to the said window; - fixing a point with initial coordinates for overlaying the elementary patterns of the reticle, with respect to the reference system consisting of the elementary lines and patterns of the video image; - searching, by continuous comparison, for the equality between the coordinates of the elementary patterns to be overlaid of the reticle, and of the elementary patterns of the video image during scanning; - and enabling of the overlay (VS A 1 to VS A 8) when the comparison is positive and when there is an elementary pattern of the reticle to be overlaid actually present for the said coordinates. The data relating to a reticle line to be overlaid are loaded during the line scanning flyback, in a low-capacity random-access memory (MEM1 to MEM8). <IMAGE>
