PURPOSE:To provide the titled foam which is lightweight and has excellent flexibility, heat resistance, heat insulating properties and mechanical strength, by expanding a p-methylstyrene resin. CONSTITUTION:A blowing agent (e.g. a mixture of dichlorodifluoromethane and methylene chloride) and optionally 0.1-5pts.wt. flame retarder (e.g. pentabromochlorocyclohexane) are blended with 100pts.wt. base resin consisting of p-methylstyrene resin having a melt flow rate of 0.1g/10min or below and a Vicat softening point of 110-120 deg.C and optionally a small quantity of other resin (e.g. PS). The mixture is shaped and expanded to obtain a p-methylstyrene resin foam having a density of 0.015-0.1g/cm<3> and a thickness of 5mm or above. |
