1,012,635. Seats. LA-Z-BAY CHAIR CO. Aug. 31, 1962, No. 33614/62. Heading A4J. A reclining and platform rocking chair has a base portion 17<SP>1</SP> on which a supporting frame 13<SP>1</SP> is rockably borne and arrestable, a seat 14<SP>1</SP> and backrest 10<SP>1</SP> being mounted on the frame 13<SP>1</SP> in such a manner that for the formation of a reclining chair they are swingable relatively to one another on the supporting frame 13<SP>1</SP> which is then blocked against forward rocking in any selected backwardly tilted position. A one-way blocking device arranged between frame 13<SP>1</SP> and base 17<SP>1</SP> consists of a bracket 71<SP>1</SP> connected to frame 13<SP>1</SP> and having ratchet teeth 72<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 14, engaged by a latching bar 74<SP>1</SP> pivoted at 75<SP>1</SP> to a bracket 76<SP>1</SP> in base 17<SP>1</SP>. An operating arm 51<SP>1</SP> is provided with a wire element 78<SP>1</SP> to pivot latching bar 74<SP>1</SP> and withdraw it from a tooth 72<SP>1</SP>. The arm 51<SP>1</SP> also actuates a footrest 45<SP>1</SP>. As shown in Fig. 9 the footrest is retracted and the latch is released to allow forward rocking of the frame 13<SP>1</SP> by means of rockers 15<SP>1</SP> on the base 17<SP>1</SP>. As shown in Fig. 14 the frame 13<SP>1</SP> cannot be rocked forwardly on base 17<SP>1</SP> but ratchet teeth 72<SP>1</SP> permit rearward rocking. The backrest 10<SP>1</SP> is pivotably connected at 169 to the seat 14<SP>1</SP> by links 152 and links 170 connect the front of the seat 14<SP>1</SP> to the frame 13<SP>1</SP>. Links 146 connect the backrest to the base 17<SP>1</SP>. As the back 10<SP>1</SP> is reclined the seat 14<SP>1</SP> moves forwardly of the frame 13<SP>1</SP> and the frame 13<SP>1</SP> rocks backwardly into the position shown in Fig. 14.
