<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a picture null part and the omission of information in a picture terminal part by interpolating a video signal null part with the interpolation signal of time width corresponding to the quantity of a black signal at the horizontal end and in the neighborhood of the horizontal end of a video signal part CONSTITUTION:When the signal of an existing standard television system (NTSC system, for example) is displayed in a high definition display 10, a time compression circuit 5 time-compresses the horizontal width of the video signal part of an NTSC sequentially scanning signal at a specified compression ratio. A discrimination circuit 36 discriminates the presence or absence of the video omission part of the horizontal end in the video signal part of the output signal in the time compression circuit 5 and outputs it as a gray level width switching signal. A gray level addition circuit 7 interpolates video signal null parts at the both sides of the video signal part by the gray level signal with time width corresponding to the gray level width switching signal in such a way that the null parts is permitted to be adjuscent to the video signal part. At this time, the time width of the gray level signal is switched in accordance with the quantity of the black signal at the horizontal end and in the neighborhood of the horizontal end of the video signal part.</p> |
