Evaporator consisting of a cylindrical enclosure, with a vertical axis, comprising, in its lower part, a bundle of vertical tubes (16) whose ends are fastened in a leakproof manner in holes of two horizontal plates (18, 20) and means (32, 34) for allowing entry of a liquid to be concentrated under the lower plate of the tube bundle and, above the upper plate of the bundle, at least one opening for the discharge of the concentrated liquid, the upper part of the enclosure forming a chamber (26) provided with an exit (30) for the vapour produced. To reduce the cost of the apparatus and to reduce the retention time of the liquid in the evaporator, the latter is provided with an annular manifold (38) external to the enclosure (10) and communicating with the interior of the enclosure through a plurality of openings (36) cut in the enclosure. <IMAGE>
