A process for producing diester of carbonic acid safely in a stabilized manner with high selectivity and yield, which comprises conducting the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of carbon monoxide with nitrous ester in the presence of a solid catalyst prepared by depositing on a carrier a catalytic component comprising (a) platinum group metal and/or its compound, (b) compound of iron, copper, bismuth, cobalt, nickel and/or tin, and (c) vanadium compound, molybdenum compound, tungsten compound, sulfuric acid and/or phosphoric acid.
