<p>A device for crosscutting an optical fibre comprises mounting units 2 and 4 for the fibre, each of which units comprises a hard component 6 and 6' onto which a strip 8 and 8' made of a flexible material, for example synthetic felt, has been glued, with it being possible for the components 6 and 6' to be moved between an open position, in which they accept the optical fibre OF between the flexible strips 8 and 8', and a closed position, in which the fibre OF is pressed between the strips 8 and 8'. A fibre holder 9 has been arranged to apply a pulling force P1 to the fibre OF such that it slides between the flexible strips 8 and 8' in the closed position of the components 6 and 6'. Before the fibre is inserted between strips 8 and 8', a V-shaped notch N, at which the fibre is crosscut, has been produced in the fibre. These strips 8 and 8' have been designed such that the fibre OF is firstly, when it slides between the strips 8 and 8', bent in the region around the notch N, after which the direction of bending of the fibre OF is changed so that the fibre OF breaks at the notch N when the fibre holder 9 applies a pulling force P1 to the fibre OF. The fibre holder 9 then releases the one severed end face of the fibre OF from the other 8 and 8'. <IMAGE></p> |
