GNRH ANALOGS

Peptides which include unnatural amino acids and which inhibit the secretion of gonadotropins by the pituitary gland and inhibit the release of steroids by the gonad. The peptides are analogs of th e decapeptide GnRH wherein there is at least one residue of an unnatural amino acid U* in the 3-, 5- and/or 6-positions. Such unnatur al amino acids are useful in the synthesis of peptides and can be formed after synthesis of the peptide chain. The unnatur al amino acid U* can have a cyanoguanidino group on the omega carbon atom of the side chain, but preferably has formula U* (I) where j is 1 or 2 and R11 is H or an acyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.
