PURPOSE: To easily execute desired accompanying chording concerning the chord step recording device and its method of an automatic accompanying system. CONSTITUTION: The device and the method are constituted by a step for designating one address of a memory part 5 when a key signal for executing a step chording mode is inputted in an electronic keyboard, a step for holding a previously set reference resolution value as it is or increasing it, a step for scanning the key signal to be inputted and discriminating a melody chord from a play mode, a step for generating step recording data through the use of discriminated contents and the resolution value and storing it in the memory part 5 and the step for increasing the address of the memory part 5 and executing recovery.
