PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in picture quality of a middle brightness portion and large movement of a compression start point due to a high brightness portion with a small area such as a spot light source in an entire pattern and to prevent deterioration in a high frequency component at the high brightness portion when the high brightness portion of a video signal from a video camera is compressed by a nu circuit. CONSTITUTION:A high brightness portion of a video signal is compressed by using a transistor(TR) 23 and resistors 20, 21. A level Vk1 of a base of the TR 23 deciding the compression start point is changed by an integrating output resulting from integrating an output of a comparator 11 comparing the video signal with a prescribed level Vr1. Moreover, a high frequency component in the video signal of the compressed high brightness portion is extracted and added to a main line signal. |
