PURPOSE:To obtain a synthetic wax available as binder wax for thermal transfer ink by ester-exchange reacting bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate and lower alkyl fatty acid ester. CONSTITUTION:Bis(polyalkylene glycol)terephthalate shown in general formula (1): HO-(R-O)n-OC-X-CO-(OR)n-OH [X represents a phenylene group, R an alkylene group shown by 2-4C integers and (n) 1-50 and lower alkyl fatty acid ester such as myristic acid, palmitic acid, strearic acid, behenic acid, oleic acid, lauric acid, etc., are ester-exchange reacted, thus acquiring synthetic wax. Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate is used as the bis-terephthalate. A dealcohol esterification reaction is conducted, and hydrogenation is performed, thus obtaining synthetic wax approximate to natural carnauba wax and having low melt viscosity and proper melting point and hardness. |
