An individual electric motor drive for a spinning or twisting spindle has a three position switch (10). In the running position (C) the windings of the stator are suplied with 3-phase alternating current (L1, L2, L3), in the braking position (A) they are supplied with direct current (+UB-UB), and in the neutral position (B) the supply is cut off. The switch (10) can be knee operated and can be capable of being left in the running (C) or neutral (B) position but must be held against a spring for braking (A). The switch (10) can be connected to an endbreak detector logic controller (14). USE/ADVANTAGE - The switching arrangement provides for individual motor drives operating procedures corresp. to those used in mechanical tangential belt drives.
