Impact testing e.g. for motor vehicle crash investigation - using deformation element on pendulum carriage unambiguously buckling when permissible tension is exceeded

A striking mechanism, pref. in the form of an impacting pendulum, imposes an acceleration process on a test piece (1) by intermediate switching in of a pulse transmitter (4). The latter assumes a definite final form differing from its original shape by bending in or out. The bending deformation of the pulse transmitter can be reversible. At least one unambiguously bending deformation element (9) is installed on one of the impact sides (8a) of a pendulum carriage (4). The deformation element can be multiple angled, plate-shaped or a hollow disc. Recesses or apertures can be provided in the deformation element. ADVANTAGE - Several acceleration pulses can be sequentially defined in rapid succession by the striking mechanism.
