The measuring point (7) on the drill head (5) is located precisely opposite the ridge of the annular tooth (3), where magnetometers (9) are fitted and wired to a processor (8). The rotational speed is signalled by the passage of one or more magnetised balls, or rollers, in the bearing (10) of the tool holder (4). The overroll signals from a new tooth, a worn one, and a blocked or stationary one are readily distinguishable in continuous monitoring and processing.
