摘要 |
The invention comprises a vinyl chloride composition which contains a phenolic compound, unsubstituted, or substituted by alkyl, alkoxy or amino groups, in an amount ranging from one-half to thirty parts per million by weight of the monomer. The incorporation of the phenolic compound stabilizes the vinyl chloride against pre-polymerization. Many suitable phenolic compounds are specified. The vinyl chloride monomer may be prepared, for example, by dehydrochlorination of 1, 2-dichloroethane or by hydrochlorination of acetylene, the phenolic compound generally being added after the last distillation step. Examples are given.ALSO:Vinyl chloride compositions, containing a phenolic compound as a stabiliser against pre-polymerisation, are polymerised by known processes. In examples: (11) and (12) vinyl chloride containing, as stabiliser, phenol, p-cresol, p-amino-phenol, 3-hydroxypyridine, 2,4,6-tri-tert.butyl phenol, pentamethyl phenol, 2,4-di-(1, 1, 3, 3-tetramethylbutyl) phenol, or 2, 6-di-(2-hexyl) -4- (2-octadecyl) phenol is polymerised, the catalyst being a mixture of lauroyl peroxide and methyl cellulose in water; (13) vinyl chloride containing p-methoxy phenol is polymerised using a catalyst of potassium persulphate and sodium laurate. |
