Reversing aid for automobile - uses propagation time of ultrasonic or electromagnetic waves to calculate distance of rear obstacle and initiate braking

The reversing aid uses ultraonic or electromagnetic waves, to provide the distance between the rear of the automobile and on obstactle behind it. The reversing aid is brought into operating automatically upon selection of reverse gear via a sensor associated with the gear selection lever (9) and is linked to the vehicle brakes (13) to initiate automatic braking when a given min distance is reached. Pref the measured obstacle distance is fed to a display instrument (8) incorporated in the vehicle dashboard, with an optical and/or acoustic signal provided upon reaching the min distance. USE - For preventing collision during reversing.
