The coil of an electromagnetic actuator for an electrical relay has a former with a square centre section and flanges at either end. The front flange is of greater thickness and is shaped as a terminal block. A pair of pillars (41,42) provide a facility for external connection. The end surface is recessed to provide a location for electronic switches (45-48). Interconnecting channels allow wires to run between the switches. The switches and wires can be fixed into place with an adhesive. The switches connect with the coil windings on the centre section.
