Joint tapes for sealing trench walls are welded together, partic. for joining plastic sealing sheet or concrete panels in bentonite-filled trenches or similar. Each side of a sealing sheet or panel has a joint tape; the two sheets (or panels) to be bonded together are dropped with a welding cartridge into the trench wall; the tapes are moved together in such a way as to make it difficult to separate them horizontally; they are then welded together by raising the welding cartridge. Liquid in the gap to be sealed is pressed out by the cartridge or a tool; the gap is widened out until the edges of the joint tapes meet; the surfaces in contact together of thetapes are fused by the heating cartridge, and the fused material is formed into a covering for the gap to be sealed.
