摘要 Hexafluoroisopropanol-modified epichlorhydrin-contg. polyethers (I) based on structural units of formula (IIA) or (IIB); where x = 1.0-0.1; y = 0-0.9. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I), by reaction of 1 mol. epichlorhydrin contg. polyether (III) with 1.5-6 mols. hexafluoroisopropanol (IV) at 20-140 deg C in the presence of diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (diglyme) and a base. Pref. (III) contain 30-70 wt.% epichlorhydrin (V) and are obtd by polymerisation of (V) alone or with alkylene oxides, pref. EO; examples are Herchlor H and C (RTM); pref. reaction is carried out with 2.5-3.5 mols. (IV) at 115-125 deg.C in presence of 90-95 wt.% diglyme (w.r.t. polymer) and 2-5 mols. K2CO3 (w.r.t. C1 atoms); prods. (I) have Tg = -41 to -43 deg.C and decompsn. pt. above 200 deg C (cf. -43 deg.C and ca. 170- deg C for III) and are vulcanised by normal methods. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful for the prodn,. of elastic mouldings. Modification of (III) as above gives polyethers (I) with increased oil resistance (for prodn. of tubes, seals etc)., without adversely affecting the low temp. properties.
