Functional fluid comprising aq. soln. of alkali salts and corrosion inhibitors - free from nitrite and glycol

A functional fluid, free from nitrite and glycol, is based on aq. alkali salt solns. contg. at least 15 wt.% of salts and also anti-corrosion additives. Pref. the compsn. contains 10-45 wt.% of K acetate, 5-35% of K2CO3, 0-0.2 of KF, 0-0.5% of alkali salts of silicic acids, and 0-0.2% of inhibitors, e.g. benzotriazole or mercaptobenzothiazole, the rest being water. USE/ADVANTAGE - The fluids are heat transfer agents and coolants, e.g. for heating and solar plants and in cooling systems of internal combustion engines. The fluids have better anti-freeze properties, down to -50 deg. C, and give better protection against corrosion of metallic units. They contain no nitrates, amines or phosphates, are environment-friendly, and can easily be disposed of. They are easily miscible with agents contg. glycols.
