<p>There is disclosed a magnetic head for use in a magnetic recording/reproducing device. The magnetic head includes a core material which is formed by alternately laminating Fe-Ta-N or Fe-Ta-B-N soft magnetic films and insulative films, the core material constituting a magnetic circuit. The soft magnetic film is produced by a sputtering process of the type in which a target and a substrate are disposed in parallel opposed relationship to each other, and the soft magnetic film has a specified composition, a specified structure and a specified thickness. A heat treatment during a magnetic head production process is carried out in a non-magnetic field which is available simply and easily, and the magnetic head exhibits excellent recording/reproducing characteristics even with respect to a high coercivity media.</p>
