MANUFACTURE OF GREEN COMPACT

PURPOSE:To prevent cracking of a billet surface and to enable direct rolling without cooling of a billet by limiting the amt. of the gas to be incorporated into a flux and preventing formation of foam in the flux to be admitted between the billet and a casting mold. CONSTITUTION:The flux for continuous casting of steel is of <=15mlamt. of the gas to be generated (for each 100g of a slag forming agent) at the melting temp. of the flux -1,400 deg.C after carbon as an adjusting agent for melting is burned away at <=700 deg.C and consists of the slag forming agent and adjusting agent for melting. The formation of foam in the flux melted and admitted between the billet and the mold is prevented by such flux, by which the surface crack of the billet is prevented and the billet after casting is directly rolled without being cooled.
