PURPOSE:To obtain a hyperglycemic inhibitor, excellent in inhibitory action on hyperglycemia and usable without anxiety and a fear of side effects, etc., on human bodies. CONSTITUTION:A hyperglycemic inhibitor is obtained by including one or more tea polyphenols selected from tea catechins expressed by formula I (R1 is H or OH; R2 is H or formula II) and theaflavins expressed by formula III (R3 and R4 are H or formula II), preferably (-)-epicatechin gallate expressed by formula I (R1 is H; R2 is formula II) or (-)-epigallocathechin gallate expressed by formula I (R1 is OH; R2 is formula II), free type theaflavin expressed by formula III (R3 and R4 are H), theaflavin monogallate A or B expressed by formula III (R3 is formula II and R4 is H for the theaflavin monogallate A; R3 is H and R4 is formula II for the theaflavin monogallate B) and theaflavin digallate expressed by formula III (R3 and R4 are formula II) as an active ingredient. Since the aforementioned hyperglycemic inhibitor consists essentially of natural substances ordinarily drunk in a considerable amount, there is no fear of side effects and sufficient effects are obtained by use in a small amount. Furthermore, the aforementioned active ingredient is preferably orally administered in an amount of about 2-5g per day. |
