PURPOSE:To simplify a transfer processing order and to shorten time for trans fer by continuing the processing of transferring a partial tree at a level lower by one hierarchy and specifying a file or a directory generating a fault when the transfer of the partial tree is failed. CONSTITUTION:At the three structure type filing system composed of the files (the rectangular parts of the figure) and the directories (the elliptical parts of the figure), assuming that a file F having slanting lines generates the fault, when transferring the entire partial trees lower than a directory A in such a case, the transfer is failed since the file F is included. Next, the partial threes following to directories B and C lower by one hierarchy is transferred. The transfer is made successful since the partial trees lower than the directory C include no file having the fault. On the other hand, the transfer of partial trees lower than the directory B is failed becaused of the same reason. Then, the level is moved to the further lower hierarchy, and the transfer of a file G is finally made successful although the transfer of the file F is failed since there is the fault.
