PURPOSE:To obtain proper orientation at the time of rubbing in a liquid crystal process by eliminating a short circuit between vertical signal lines. CONSTITUTION:This image display device has at least a thin film transistor(TFT) 7 formed on an insulating substrate 1, a vertical signal line 7 connected to the source area of the TFT 2, and a picture element electrode 6 extended from the drain area of the TFT 2. The picture element electrode 6 extended from the drain area of the TFT 2 contacts the drain area directly and is formed of a single layer and the vertical signal line 7 connected to the source area of the TFT 2 is formed through the same thin film with the picture element electrode.
