PURPOSE:To offer a toner state detecting method in which a toner level inside a container is precisely detected without especially providing a toner detecting sensor inside a developing container, and an abnormality detecting method in which the presence of abnormality between a toner carrier acid an image forming body is detected by effectively using the toner state detecting method, in an image forming device having a magnetic brush produced by conductive magnetic toner and carrying out electrification while the bank of toner is rubbed on the surface of the image forming body. CONSTITUTION:As a characteristic, an inflow current flowing into the side of the image forming body 1 from the toner carrier 31 via the magnetic brush or an electrification potential Vp formed on the surface of the image carrier is detected, and the toner state of the toner carrier side is detected based on the detection output. On the other hand, as a characteristic, first detection output for detecting the inflow current flowing into the image forming body side from a conductive toner carrier via the magnetic brush or the electrification potential formed on the surface of the image forming body, is compared with second detection output for directly detecting a toner quantity inside the developing container 32 incorporating the toner carrier, and the presence of the abnormality between the toner carrier and the image forming body is recognized based on the signal of the comparison. |
