<p>A plant for thermic redn. of refuse uses a low temp. (300 - 700 degs C.) distn. reactor. The plant treats soil contaminated with organic or inorganic substances, contaminated wood, oil, slurry and a plastics of all types, as distinct from household refuse. Contaminants include heavy metals, inorganic substances containing HC1 or CN-. The novelty lies in the treatment and sepn. of the distn. prods. and of the larger, solid materials, from fine dust or gaseous material. The relatively low temp. distn. is carried out mainly without oxygen. The process ensures that:- a) liq. fine particles and dry waste prods are burnt. b) dust is removed from the smoke and trapped in the melted slag. c) heavy metal oxides are sepd from the smoke for further recycling. d) the molten slag after cooling can be used for building material. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides an economical means of handling contaminated waste which is of low heat value. Ensures extensive redn. of organic and inorganic contaminants in the residues which can then be safely deposited. Oxides of heavy metals are recoverable for further recycling.</p> |
